Start with the feeling you want
Are you here for city life, coastlines or countryside? Pick one priority, then choose places that support it. Hanoi pairs naturally with a northern itinerary; Da Nang is a useful base for a central coast trip. A slower route leaves space for the everyday moments that make a holiday memorable.
Build a route that gives you time
For an illustrative seven-day central Vietnam trip, allow three nights in Da Nang, two in Hoi An and one in Hue, with the remaining time reserved for arrival and departure. Adapt this to your flight times and interests. This is a planning example, not a bookable package.
Allow for the whole transfer
A short flight still involves airport travel, check-in and baggage. A train journey includes station access and the onward trip to your hotel. Plan around door-to-door travel rather than the time shown on a ticket.
Book the pieces that matter first
Choose transport and a sensible hotel base before filling every afternoon with activities. Read cancellation terms and confirm room occupancy, baggage and tour inclusions. Keep a free afternoon in case weather changes your plans.
Leave a little room for discovery
Choose one main outing per day, with cafés, food stops and neighbourhood walks around it. You do not need to see every region on your first visit. Save the places you miss for another journey.
